Don’t forget our KLAMOR kids

Amid Hairspray’big, cool news and well-deserved buzz, don’t forget the other show! Our six-week workshop for kids, KLAMOR, will conclude with three public performances. It’s the return of summer children’s programming to Near West Theatre. We couldn’t be prouder.

A cast of 24, ages 9 to 13 (cast list below), will present an original production, Angels and Demons, in one evening show, Thursday, July 26, at 7:30, and two weekend matinees — Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29, both at 3:00. All will be at West Side United Church of Christ, 3800 Bridge Ave., across West 38th Street from our regular main-stage performance space.

The production will showcase what the kids have learned each morning, Monday through Thursday, since June 18: acting, music, improvisation, scenic arts, poetry, stage combat and more. Its story lines will draw from the participants’ own lives, experiences and observations of the world. The show will be pulled into final form during the week leading up to the shows, so running time isn’t known yet, but KLAMOR Program Director Kelcie Dugger believes the performance will last around 40 minutes.

Besides fostering a pool of young actors who we hope will audition for future productions, KLAMOR is also about developing leaders. Its faculty and staff are mostly young adults, including several who have appeared in our past children’s programs.

Tickets are available online or by calling 216-961-6391 weekdays between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. General admission is $8 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. There’s also a $20 Star Seat option with special benefits: a reserved seat in advance, a bottle of water, and other goodies (which, however, have to be redeemed at a regular main-stage show since we won’t have a full-service gift shop over at West Side UCC).
